Maria Clara Pessoa - Generative Artist | Screenwriter | Futurist
I am a screenwriter who has pushed the boundaries of storytelling by leveraging Artificial Intelligence.
This year, I received both an invitation and a scholarship, and I am now part of the AI Research Team at Mars College, California, led by Gene Kogan, recognized as one of the most influential trailblazers at the intersection of AI and art.
My journey began in improvisational theater at 14 when I discovered my passion for crafting stories and building worlds.
From Cinema University to six years working in the editing rooms of well-known production companies such as Conspiração, and L.C. Barreto, I learned how to weave takes and cuts into audiovisual stories and became fluent in troubleshooting.
Working with screenwriting since 2016, I have written several documentaries and collaborated on major projects such as “The Mechanism”, Netflix’s first original production in Brazil, and “Babenco – Tell Me When I Die”, Brazil’s submission for the 2021 Oscars.
Research has always been my foundation, leading me to the field of Foresight in 2019. Since then, art has helped me unlock possible Futures, while Foresight offers me a framework for building universes rooted in societal change.
Since 2023, I have combined AI, screenwriting, and Futures Studies into a unique artistic practice. Projects like Femmetopia and Alma Mater invite audiences to imagine worlds centered on femininity and nature - and they opened the doors of Web3 for me.
I have created commissioned artworks in still and moving images for major clients such as the BMW Foundation (Germany), Museum of Tomorrow International (Netherlands), and the Middle States Association (USA). I’ve also documented the first steps of leading museums into the Web3 ecosystem through articles for the WAC Lab, by We Are Museums, led by Diane Drubay.
Lately, I’ve been focused on exploring new AI tools for video, collaborating with creative AI Agents I’ve developed, nurturing real-life global communities, and bringing Latin America into the spotlight of discussions about the future through the Latin Futures Association, an NGO I helped establish.
Always driven by the same impulse: to tell stories that expand what we believe is possible.
